“Hep C Free” in SA Prisons


The SAPHS team received recognition with The Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS) Clinical Excellence and Patient Safety Award for their project titled “Hep C is Everyone’s Business.”

Spearheading a comprehensive state-wide initiative, South Australia’s Prison Health Service (SAPHS) is achieving remarkable outcomes in eliminating Hepatitis C among inmates. Their collaborative program, supported by new medications from the Commonwealth government, involves partnerships with various health organizations and the establishment of efficient testing and treatment procedures.

Emphasizing collective responsibility, the innovative ‘Hep C: Everyone’s Business’ model is central to their strategy, aiming to mitigate the long-term health risks associated with untreated Hepatitis C in the prison population.
